My name is Catherine Crowley and I am a quilter and a card maker and I love color. I was born in Michigan, and moved to San Jose, California when I was 5 years old. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s and that probably had the biggest impact on my character, so many things were happening and we, as children in that place and time, grew up questioning everything. I moved to Arizona in 1970 and have stayed here ever since. I fell in love with the desert at first sight. I have a BA in Theatre from Arizona State University and I spent about 20 years working with local community theaters, sometimes acting, sometimes behind the scenes. I worked as a secretary/administrative assistant to support my hobby. I also did a lot of traveling and have been to England and Ireland.
I have started an Etsy.com store (prettycolorful) where I sell the handmade cards and small quilted items that I have made. I have developed my own style in making cards which uses color, typography, geometric and floral designs, with elements that are raised off the surface using dimensional foam dots. My quilts are usually inspired by the fabric itself, and sometimes through patterns that I see in quilting books and magazines. For some reason, I have never been able to exactly replicate a pattern; I always give it some unique twist of my own.
